Half Baked
Half Baked

Half Baked is almost the 90's version of Cheech and Chong. For all who enjoy pot humour this is a must see; but if you can't stand it then don't bother. The plot is a little weak - three potheads attempting to bail a buddy out of jail (killed a diabetic police horse by feeding him junk food). So they steal pot from a medical lab and start selling it as a delivery service to raise the $100,000 needed for bail. The movie has many cameos including Tommy Chong, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Willie Nelson, Bob Saget, Janeane Garofalo and Jon Stewart. Non-smokers may laugh even harder, because for many us Half-Baked is a perfect example of why we don't smoke.

Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is a Quentin Tarantino masterpiece. It is funny, obscene, violent, outrageous, clever and very original - this is a film that must be watched (a few times) and cannot be described in words. It stars John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Ving Rhames and of course the usual cameos by Tarantino.

Pulp Fiction will likely be remembered as one that added a new dimension to the crazy world of movie making.

Slapshot
Slap Shot slapshot

Slapshot is one of very few hockey comedies done by Hollywood. The film stars Paul Newman as Reggie Dunlop; player-coach of the rag tag Charlestown Chiefs, a hockey team on the verge of folding. In a last ditch effort save the team, Newman decides to even the playing field by gooning it up - as Eddie Shore would say, playing 'Old Tyme Hockey'. The movie has many memorable characters including Denis Lemieux, Maurice Wanchuck, Joe McGrath and Ned Braden - but none more memorable than the Hanson Brothers.

These three guys epitomize the term 'tough' as they take on all comers (including Ogie Ogalthorpe) in turning the Chiefs into a rough and tumble winner. Slapshot is a definite buy for any sports fan, an especially for a hockey fan!! Here are some more hockey movies.

Strange Brew
Strange Brew

Welcome to the great white north. Don't forget your touque eh! The main characters in Strange Brew are Bob and Doug Mackenzie, two brothers living with their parents just outside of Toronto, Ontario in what seems like always freezing Canada. They drink lots of beer and get a job inspecting empties (empty beer bottles) at the nearby Elsinore Brewery. This is where they come across the evil brewmeister's plan to control minds of people by getting them to drink a drugged concoction of Elsinore beer. The two brothers have the day by preventing the tainted beer from getting to the local Oktoberfest celebrations in Kitchener/Waterloo. Believe it or not, but Strange Brew clings loosely to the plotline of Shakespeare's 'Hamlet'. So grab a case of beers, some popcorn and watch the movie, ya hosers.
