Domestic beer reviews

Alexander Keiths
Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale

As the old saying goes, "there's nothing like a good ale for whatever ails you". Keith's is an excellent pale ale from Nova Scotia. Brewed since 1820, this beer has alot of character, it is light in colour and is quite 'hoppy'. It falls under the premium category but the extra couple of dollars are well worth it.

Carling Light

Carling Light

Lets see...its cheap, not too bad a taste, decent alcohol level and its cheap. You can't beat that combination when operating under tight budgetary constraints. Taint was monumental is proving to us all that Carling Light has a place in every household.

For Best Results - Drink cold, perfect for the funnel, prefer in large quantities.

Labatt Blue
Labatt Blue

This is a very versatile and affordable beer - the ubiquitous Canadian brew. Does not contain any preservatives, has a fresh taste and texture and is not very over-bearing. Ideal summer beer.

Beer Category - Pilsner - 5.0% Alcohol
For Best Results - Drink cold, good with food or in large quantities.

Moosehead
Moosehead

A very foamy head covers this lager - but on draught it often feels under-carbonated. Has a light lemony tinge and not much of an aftertaste. Overall a somewhat weak beer though on the pricey side.

Beer Category - Lager - 5.0% Alcohol
For Best Results - Drink cold, good for the funnel, avoid on draught (often flat).

Steeler Beer

Steeler Lager beer

Steeler has a new bottle/can design but its still the same ole' beer. Brewed in Hamilton (steel town) this beer is pretty weak, with an almost bleached taste suggesting a far from ideal brewing conditions. But, its damn cheap. So if you are on a stricter budget than Carling Light, you might find yourself staring down a 24 of Steeler in your neighbourhood beer store.

Beer Category - Lager - 5.0% Alcohol
For Best Results - Drink cold, not recommended with food. If drinking a large amount, don't make plans for the next morning and stay in a well ventilated area.
